Eggen Gardsysteri, Norway

Eggen Gardsysteri is located in the beautiful mountain village Vingelen in the middle of Norway. The farm has been managed by the family since the beginning. In 1990, Liv Bjørnstad and Ola Eggen took over the farm. They began converting to organic farming in 1991 and were approved as organic farming in 1995. In the summer the cows graze near Forollhogna National Park.

In 2001 Liv and Ola established the dairy Eggen Gardsysteri, which was built next door to the barn kitchen. The milk is pumped directly from the milk tank into the Plevnik cheese kettle SKH 800 EL Advanced +, which is a crucial part of the dairy.

The milk is pasteurized before it becomes Fjellost, Fjellblå, Eggen special, Fjellgo’, and salad cheese. In addition, some traditional local products such as gubb and mølske are made. Great emphasis is placed on the craftsmanship of cheesemaking. Eggen Gardsysteri has received several awards, among others gold for Fjellblå and silver for Fjellgo’ in London’s World Cheese Awards 2017.

Since 2001 the production has been organically approved. Dairy products are sold in a small farm shop and garden shop open in the summer, through Rørosmat, and at some fairs.
