Ferme Colas, France

Ferme Colas is an organic farm located in Livré-la-Touche in north-western France. The family farm processes the milk of their cows into yogurts and desserts to sell them locally and directly to customers. On 92 hectares and with 90 dairy cows, Ferme Colas produces around 14 different organic dairy products, like a variety of yogurts, creams, puddings, and cottage cheeses. We are proud to say that even three Plevnik Pasteurizers (two of them with a volume of 500 l and one with a volume of 300 l) play an important part in a farm’s success story helping the Farm Colas in the milk processing. 

The work on building a dairy farm began in 2019 after the farm owners Florence and Hervé Colas, were joined by their son Léo Colas. Already two years after starting with organic milk processing Ferme Colas has reached more than satisfying sales: “The volumes sold are beyond our expectations“, says Léo. ”We started processing in 2020, with only 2 new pasteurizers, and 1 year later we added the 3rd one as our sales were going up. We started processing as we wanted to answer the needs of the final customer, as society wanted more natural and quality products.“

Ferme Colas commits to sustainable farming and desires to offer its clients complete transparency in the area of farm products’ quality. They focus on animal welfare and the environment while preserving the family farm. Due to on-site production and short delivery distances, their carbon footprint is lower than the national average. The information about their carbon footprint is displayed to their customers on their yogurt packaging!

Léo Colas is satisfied with their sales. “People are more and more interested in the local products, since the Covid crisis, but also given the current events, they have realized that it is not viable to be so dependent on the outside sources.” He also mentions: ”We produce 14 products for shops, and a bit more for school canteens, such as standard yogurts (natural, vanilla, lemon), yogurts with jam (apricot, blueberry, strawberry, red fruits), cottage cheese, and milk rice (riz au lait in French).“

With constant developments, Ferme Colas have ambitious goals and the motivation to grow. “We reached the volume of 200 000 liters processed after 2 years, and we sell only locally (max 80km from our farm) in shops, organic shops, and school restaurants. During this time we went from 3 people working on the farm to 9 today” sum up proud owners.

We are happy with Plevnik Pasteurizers, the quality/price ratio is very good. We choose the temperature registration option and we are very satisfied. Plevnik pasteurizer allows us to produce chocolate, caramel, or vanilla dessert thanks to its scrape stirrer. And our customers are showing a lot of interest in our dairy products. We can save plenty of different recipes in the controller, so it’s very user-friendly, especially for our new colleagues.
