Dairy farm Ravnik

Dairy farm Ravnik is located in Bohinj.  Andreja Ravnik, who runs a cheese dairy production, prudently makes sure that both their regular customers and occasional customers, who are growing every year, are well stocked. In the summer tourist season, there are significantly more customers than the rest of the year, so sales are somewhat uneven throughout the year. The Ravnik homestead is right next to the bike path that leads from Bled to Bohinj and is one of the few that has a young farm owner.

Not only that, Andreja’s cheese-making is constantly evolving with the support of her mother-in-law and brother-in-law. On average, they can make a little less than 200 liters of milk a day, and Andreja then makes hard cheeses, cottage cheese, feta, grilled cheeses, butter and yogurts from a two-day amount of milk. For these products, she recently received a selected Slovenian quality certificate. The investment was partly co-financed with European funds and funds intended for young farmers. Tastings are prepared outside in summer, therefore she has direct contact with her customers. Unfortunately, tastings are not yet available in winter, as they have not built the tasting rooms yet.

As the products are not sold in larger stores, they depend mainly on tourism.  Ravnik farm also participates in the project »Bohinjsko«, with which tourism Bohinj connects local producers and thus creates a sales network that will facilitate their sales. “I believe that this will also contribute to the creation of shorter supply routes,” says Andreja Ravnik. “Our products are also sold at the Globoko homestead,” says Andreja Ravnik. She is also looking forward to every sale outside the Bohinj area. With the farm’s current capacity, it can meet the current needs of the local market, but when there is no summer season, sales outside the Bohinj area would be welcome. Ravnik farm is also building a new barn on the edge of the village, where their cows will have more space and there is a new opportunity for milk processing facilities.
